Job Overview
The Welder is responsible for joining, fabricating, and repairing metal structures and components using welding techniques and equipment. This role requires expertise in various welding processes such as MIG, TIG, Stick, or Flux-cored welding. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and able to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of workmanship.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform welding operations on various metals, including steel, aluminum, and stainless steel, following blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Use welding equipment (e.g., MIG welders, TIG welders, stick welders) to join metal parts in accordance with project requirements and safety standards.
- Inspect welded joints to ensure proper alignment, smoothness, and compliance with specifications.
- Prepare and clean metal surfaces before welding by grinding, cutting, and applying heat treatments when necessary.
- Set up welding equipment, adjust settings, and ensure proper functionality before starting work.
- Monitor welding processes to ensure quality control, including the prevention of defects such as porosity, cracks, or warping.
- Follow safety protocols, wear proper protective equipment (PPE), and adhere to all safety regulations to minimize risks of injury and accidents.
- Maintain accurate records of welding activities, including the type of materials, processes used, and any adjustments made.
- Troubleshoot and repair defective welds, and rework parts as needed to meet quality standards.
- Perform routine maintenance on welding machines and tools, ensuring they are in good working condition.
- Collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and other team members to ensure timely and efficient project completion.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety standards (e.g., OSHA regulations).
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Certification in welding (e.g., AWS, ASME, or other recognized certification programs) preferred.
- Proven experience as a welder, typically 2-5 years, with expertise in MIG, TIG, Stick, or other welding techniques.
- Strong knowledge of welding safety practices and metalworking tools.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols.
- Familiarity with various welding processes, equipment, and materials.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Physical dexterity and stamina, with the ability to work in confined spaces or awkward positions.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well with others in a team environment.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with advanced welding techniques (e.g., robotic welding, pipe welding).
- Ability to operate cutting tools, grinders, and other metalworking equipment.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Ability to work with measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, tape measures, etc.) to ensure precision.
- Forklift or crane certification (if relevant to the role).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to [weight] pounds regularly.
- Ability to stand, kneel, crouch, and work in a bent position for extended periods.
- Capable of working in high-heat environments and wearing protective gear (e.g., welding helmets, gloves, and aprons).
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
Work Environment

- Exposure to loud noise, high heat, and welding fumes.
